Last week while I was at Petronas Station Prai filling up gas, the pump operator told me that Petronas Station (Bayan Lepas) on Penang Island will install NGV pump next month.
This week I went to the Bayan Lepas Petronas Station and check with the station operators whether they are really installing NGV pump or not.
This is what I was told: 1) On Penang island, if NGV were to be implemented, Bayan Lepas Petronas Station will be the first one to install the pump. 2) There is no plans in placed. So they don't know when the station is going to be NGV ready.

My comments are as follows:
1) There is no gas pipeline on the island. If Petronas is to install any station the only alternative is to truck the gas from Prai NGV station on to the island and download in a storage system.
2) The cost to truck the gas onto the island will not be profitable to Petronas. If the Chief Minister Dato Koh Soo Koon can put some pressure on Petronas then it can happen.
3) The number of NGV users in Penang at the moment is very small. When I was at Petronas Prai NGV station, the person in charge indicated that there are only about 60 cars. Daily collection at Prai NGV station is about RM 900 a day on normal days and 1,500 during weekends or public holidays.
4) What we need is to look at increasing the number of vehicles using NGV in the Northern Territory so that Petronas NGV is willing to increase the station to a more reasonable numbers.
5) We need to perhaps set up an association of NGV users and conversion shop to have either MCA, Gerakan and UMNO to be involved with the NGV implementation.
6) We also need perhap push all TAXIs on Penang island to convert to NGV. Dr X, should consider to open a shop to get all taxis converted to NGV.
7) A financial package or easy payment schemes should be made available for all consumers and taxi owners to help in the conversion exercise.
If Petronas NGV is not very keen, we need to look at alternatives. How about pushing Malaysian NGV to quickly set up their mother station in PW.
If the mother station is ready then more daughter stations can be set up on the island and the rest of the nothern region.

powersensor, there is a very strong rumor that Malaysian NGV is going ahead with their plan to set up a Gas Compression Center at Bukit Pancur in PW.
If this happenned then you will see at least 10 NGV daughter stations in the northern territory (Penang, Kedah,Perak and Perlis).
If U have any idle land, as small as 5000 square feet, beside the road , please contact them soon.
The idea they have is to be a gas supplier that is simple and easy for consumers. They might be like air asia in the Gas industries.
